GGC Questions – Fall 2008 – State Assembly

 1.       A budget deficit is projected for the next biennium.  In light of that projection, which state programs should have their current funding levels continued or enhanced in the future?   Which state programs should have their current funding levels reduced in the future?
2.       What more can the state of Wisconsin do to incentivize economic development in the Chippewa Valley?
3.      Energy has been identified as a major issue concerning Chippewa Valley businesses.  What can be done at the state level to address concerns about the increased cost of gas and electricity.
4.       A global warming task force established by Governor Doyle has come up with recommendations to combat global warming including:  mandating 25% use of renewable energy by 2025, changing the moratorium on nuclear energy, allow more state funding for research and development for clean energy, conservation and efficiency and a cap and trade or an emissions tax on business.

How would you balance lowering emissions and promoting renewable energy with the tremendous cost onWisconsin businesses and citizens?

5.      Health care costs continue to be a significant issue for Wisconsin families and businesses.  What can the state of Wisconsin do to assure reasonably priced health care for residents of Wisconsin?

6.      Wisconsin is 1 of 3 states that does not allow tax deductibility for contributions to Health Savings Accounts (HSA).  Would you support legislation to allow this deduction?  Why or why not?
