A picturesque 1,030 acre park where the Fisher River joins the Chippewa River just north of Cornell. The main park development lies on an island in the Chippewa River and is open seasonally through the summer months. Brunet Island State Park, on the Chippewa and Fisher rivers, contains more than 1,200 acres of scenic beauty, wildlife, camping, outdoor recreation and other recreational opportunities. The park is open seasonally through the summer months and has 69 campsites, picnic areas, electricity, shelters, flush toilets, playgrounds, an athletic field, swimming beach, and hiking trails. Three miles of cross county ski trails are available for the winter sports enthusiast. Nearby, the city of Cornell has every shopping convenience you may want including motels, restaurants, and the start or the end of the beautiful river drive on Highway 178 from Chippewa Falls. 69 campsites are available to campers. Hiking, canoeing, biking, swimming, fishing, & enjoying nature at its best will be waiting for you. During the winter you can ski, snowshoe, and ice fish. There is a tremendous hiking trail in close proximity to Brunet Island State Park called the O'Neil Creek Flowage Trail; Old Abe State Trail is a tremendous spot to go. Four miles of cross country ski trials are available for winter sports. An excellent campground is found at Brunet Island State Park at the eastern terminus of the segment, and primitive camping is allowed along the Trail in the Chippewa County Forest.
