Northern Wisconsin State Fair (NWSF)

Northern Wisconsin State Fair (NWSF), Chippewa Falls The Great Reunion over 100 years of fun. One of the largest fairs in the state, it is held the second week in July at the Northern Wisconsin State Fair Grounds, operated by the Chippewa Foundation. It was started in 1897 when the state government recognized the difficulty northern Wisconsin citizens had in trying to reach the Wisconsin State Fair held in West Allis.

Family entertainment:

Family entertainment featuring top name stars, great food from dozens of vendors and over a mile of carnival rides and attractions. Crowds for the five-day festival that ends around 65,500, down about 6,000 from 71,500 in 2007. That’s up about 35% from last year’s numbers. This annual fair exhibits livestock, Carnival rides, live music, farm animals, corn dogs, cotton candy, crafts, homemaking and educational exhibits, and outstanding 4-H displays.

While there aren't too many marvels of the world on display at the fair these days, it still serves as the Chippewa Valley's top destination to showcase new products and changes in industry - both rural and urban. For over a century, the fair has been more than a place to hawk products - and that's where today's fair gets competitive.

Encompassing a 27 county district, the Northern Wisconsin State Fair has played a central role in Northern Wisconsin for over 100 years. To these fairgrounds self-sufficient farming families brought their best efforts in raising chickens, sheep, cows, rabbits, horses and pigs and displayed their horticultural skills in prize pies, breads and canned goods. Farmers, teachers, shop owners, churches, homemakers and youth were all involved instilling tradition, community values and individual pride by exhibiting their talents and achievements each year.

Kid’s fun:

The main goal readily apparent across the fairground is an effort by the fair board and local businesses to incorporate the community and children into the event. There are new kids rides and a play area. The Mason shoe float using in parades and the Morning Glory cows are located in a shady, kid-safe play area that also includes benches and photo boxes sponsored by local business such as Bohl and Proulx plumbing. The kid’s area is directly across from the school exhibits building.

Senior Citizens gathering:

Activities can get rolling at the Northern Wisconsin State Fair with Senior Citizens Day, The Memories Great Reunion concert and a slew of junior exhibit judging. The cleanliness of the fairground, the space between exhibits and the many benches available for resting seemed to be popular with the senior crowd. Meet and greet family and friends for The Great Reunion.
