Page 3 of 4 Anderson Log HouseA couple by the name of Lars and Greta Anderson raised 10 children in this two-story log home that was originally located 15 miles north of Eau Claire in Chippewa County. Built in the 1860's, the construction reflects the owners' Scandinavian heritage that once stood some 15 miles outside of modern eau Claire, the historic Sunnyview School (1882), a working old-fashioned ice-cream parlor, and a unique collection of Gillette/Uniroyal items that chronicle the history of the company that was once Eau Claire's largest single employer.
In February 1976, Mitchell Movers of Chippewa Falls moved the house to the museum grounds in Carson Park. It was finally set on a stone foundation behind the museum in 1977.
Moving the house again in 2001, from one side of the museum to the other. This move freed space for museum expansion. The move took weeks of site preparation, and the hauling itself took about seven hours. It is filled with furnishings from the earliest days of its long history, including some items belonging to the Schlegelmilch family.
Greet visitors and provide information about the log home and Anderson family history. Provide security for artifacts located in the log home. Hear the immigration story of Lars and Greta Anderson, and learn about their amazing journey from Norway to Wisconsin. For the hour-long tour, museum docents will lead students in activities of daily life on the lumber frontier. Location and direction: Anderson Log House 1204 Carson Park Drive P.O.
