Dunn Historical Society

Museums, libraries, schools, parks and cultural arts enhance the quality of life in Dunn community. Quality of life is a major factor in the area's recent strong economic growth and why businesses, employees and their families choose to settle here. As the "keeper" of local history, the Dunn County Historical Society has added to that quality of life for more than 50 years. Also invites you to celebrate a quarter century of The Studio Gallery (1982–2007) and mark the tenth time that Bill and Shirley have participated in a duo exhibition.

Dunn Historical Society, Menomonie, WIRelive the logging camp era of Dunn County's early day. Visitors are treated to displays depicting operations of the Knapp, Stout & Company, once the largest white pinery in the world. On display are muzzle-loading bunks; recreation of a lumber camp kitchen and a blacksmith shop; records from the Knapp, Stout, & Company offices; a bateau; Caddie Woodlawn artifacts; Civil War weapons; household accessories. Also on the premises are a one-cell village jail; an 1865 post office which served the Louisville area until the advent of rural delivery; early farm machinery; tools from the Dunnville limestone quarry; and two railroad handcarts.

Menomonie, Wis., is not to be confused with Menominee, Mich. Just know that if you pass through Eau Claire to get to Menomonie and find a University of Wisconsin campus nearby, you are likely in the right place.

The Dunn County Historical Society also brought a nationally recognized exhibit, Trilobite Treasures, Arthropods of the Ancient Seas, to Menomonie. This exhibition of World Class Trilobite Specimens, by award winning Palentologist Joseph "PaleoJoe" Kchodl, a rare and beautiful Trilobite to life.
