An authentic replica of an 1890's logging camp. Standing at the entrance to the camp, bigger than life, are Paul Bunyan and Babe, his faithful blue ox. The Paul Bunyan Logging Camp in Eau Claire is a great history learning experience. It is set up like an actual logging camp with a bunk house, cook shanty, barn, etc - so they can see how lumberjacks actually lived and worked. Experience the bunkhouse, cook shack, blacksmith shop, barn and the heavy equipment used in the logging era. The Interpretive Center provides an excellent introduction to the Logging Camp, with actual file footage of historical logging operations plus exhibits with authentic artifacts. A variety of family-friendly exhibits and activities are available, from this logging camp (complete with blacksmith shop, jammer, and heavy equipment shed) to the Henry O. Strand Interpretive Center, which contains artifacts from Northern Wisconsin's logging heyday. Covering off the way loggers used to live and work, it provides a glimpse into days of old. In Menomonie, half an hour away, you can visit the Mabel Tainter Theatre, Empire in the Pines Museum, the Rassbach Museum, the Wilson Place Museum and short film theater, learn about life in a logging camp in our interpretive center, play in exciting Tall Tales Room and explore the barn, blacksmith shop, heavy equipment shed, cook shanty, bunkhouse, wanigan, filer's shack, and foreman's office.
