Chippewa Valley Railroad Association offers train rides on their mini train replica during the summer months. ![]() A unique opportunity to experience a 1/4 size working railroad. Train rides feature coal fired steam locomotives, a diesel locomotive, and wooden 1880 style passenger coaches, streamline passenger coaches, a gondola car and one caboose. Depot, passenger waiting canopy, round house, turntable, switch yard and the oldest interlocking tower in the state also may be seen. In August of 1881 "The Great Grading" started, which began the digging for the track to be laid. On May 12, 1882 the track was laid from Eau Claire to Wabasha by the Chippewa Valley and Superior Railroad. The railroad works with coal fired steam locomotives or a diesel locomotive. People with money would rather buy some of the bigger toys than the electric train. Along with the upgraded track, the Chippewa Valley Railroad still offers a genuine experience. Two of the railroad's three engines run on coal, and the 1880s-style cars and vintage train station are home to suspender-clad conductors wearing pin-striped engineer's hats. ![]() Memberships are available at the CVRR. New members (18 or older) may elect to learn to drive a gas powered replica of an EMD F7 locomotive or one of the two steam powered locomotives.
