Crystal Cave offers you a unique experience that will be the talk of the day. Participants will tour Wisconsin’s longest cave with friendly, knowledgeable interpreters guiding them through a maze of underground passages. Sparkling stalactites, stalagmites and delicate flowstone will amaze and fascinate everyone in this one-of-a-kind event. The hole in the ground was bought by Eau Claire advertising professional and amateur geologist, Henry Friede. He renamed the cave, then called Sanders Corner Cave, into Crystal Cave and developed it as a show cave. Delight the entire family with multiple levels, hundreds of stalactites and stalagmites, labyrinth passageways, and classic "cavern ecology" in the state's longest cave. Hour-long tours, led by entertaining interpreters, provide a glimpse of a seldom seen subterranean world. The Lodge Gift Shop offers a wide selection of gifts, souvenirs, jewelry, clothing, and homemade fudge from the Lost River Fudge Company. The cave is accessed by a series of steps and ramps that allow you to descend over 70 feet underground where your journey follows well-lighted, graveled trails. The cave temperature hovers near 50 degrees so a sweatshirt is recommended. Crystal Cave is not increasing in size but the speleothems are continuing to grow. Over the years, places have been found where growth has stopped and where new speleothems have begun to grow. This may be related to events occurring on the surface, such as farming or building a new building. All activity on the surface must consider the effects on the cave below. Unique rocks and fossils from throughout the world, along with a selection of educational toys and books, makes the Lodge a great place to find that special souvenir and go underground in search of family fun, adventure, and education. CRYSTAL CAVE, Spring Valley Guided tours through large underground caverns are of interest to people of all ages. Students can also pan for, identify, and keep, real gemstones at the Lucky Miner Gem Panning. Teacher packets, on-site pre-tour video included. Gift shop and on-site picnic grounds available.
